I have just begun another painting of the great Rachel Alexandra. My sketch layout portrays Rachel with her regular jockey Calvin Borel up. Calvin was the first jockey in history to jump off of a Derby winner to mount another horse in the Preakness. Rachel became the first filly to beat the boys since Nellie Morse accomplished it in 1924. The filly will be portrayed in watercolors on paper.
Please return tomorrow for painting progress.
As my teacher use to say:
Drawing is a series of adjustments.
What a beautiful subject you have in RA. Her athleticism and good looks were enough for me to jump mounts myself--Mine That Bird's a doll; but, Rachel Alexandra: now, she's so drop dead gorgeous, she makes everyone look plain next to her!
ReplyDeleteFantastic work, Mr. Pauly.
